Never Forget: Bush’s Fault

Fuck you, Mark McKinnon. Fuck you, Maureen Dowd. Fuck you, Mitch McConnell, Ari Fleischer, Karl Rove and the Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight and Fox & Friends. As you can read for yourself from the links, the salty invective is for the shameless and disgusting attempts by all these people to tell us that we owe George W. Bush some measure of gratitude. I probably left out some names, as Bush’s former aides and liars are currently on a propaganda tour, touting the former president’s “accomplishments” while bashing Obama.

Frankly, the whole exercise makes me physically ill. When I first saw that billboard with Bush’s smirk and the “Miss me yet?” caption, I thought I’d stumbled into an alternate universe. Could it be that there were people out there that stupid and uninformed? Evidently there are, but don’t let that fool you into believing that there is some new wellspring of nostalgia for the worst president in history. Polls show that Americans still place the blame for our economic mess squarely on W’s shoulders and think the Iraq War was a mistake. His hagiographers are currently trying to avert this inevitability, but facts are facts.

Yet the single most revolting part of the mess is the claim that Bush somehow kept us safe and we need to thank him for the Iraq War. First, Bush allowed 9/11 to happen. There is no debate, no amount of whitewashing that can change that. Then, after we attempted to avenge the attack, invading Afghanistan and ousting the Taliban, Bush willfully diverted the country with lies in order to take us into a second war. That action, unnecessary, illegal and disastrous, should alone disqualify any of the above bloviators from speaking on TV ever again. We might not dig out of the hole Bush created for a generation and these assholes are telling me that I should be gracious.

Aside from the crippling recession, the unfunded and unworkable domestic policies, the handouts to the rich,  Katrina and the continued prominence of those who aided and abetted his destruction, the Iraq War is the biggest cock-up in modern American history. You’ll excuse me the harsh language when I hear a cadre of disingenuous hacks attempt to tell me otherwise.

Fuck you, George W. Bush. I will never forget.
